Resarch need is to address the inadequacy of existing monitoring systems in meeting the information needs of policymakers and stakeholders concerning Europe’s multifunctional forests.
Goal:
Goal is to establish a blueprint for a comprehensive European forest multifunctionality Monitoring system (EFMMS) to address the challenges posed by climate change and environmental stressors on Europe’s forests.
Objectives:
Ensure EFMMS’ wide applicability by using a multi-actor approach to fulfil the needs of institutions and stakeholders.
Ensure the quality & feasibility of EFMMS’ capabilities, by developing guidelines & methods for quantifying essential indicators that describe forest multifunctionality.
Maximize EFMMS’ applicability by developing harmonized solutions to recognized critical methodological bottlenecks.
Ensure EFMMS uptake by making suggestions about practical implementation, permanent governance & funding.
